Dear San Antonio College Students,
We want to alert you to a recent scam targeting students
regarding BankMobile Disbursements and Financial Aid refunds. Scammers
may contact you through email, text messages, or phone calls pretending to be
from BankMobile or San Antonio College. These phishing emails, phone
calls or text messages attempt to trick students into providing sensitive
personal information, like login credentials or bank details, by claiming
issues with their disbursement or requiring immediate action to access their
funds.
What to Watch For:
- Phishing
Emails or Texts: Messages
asking you to click on links and enter personal information (e.g., Social
Security number, BankMobile login, or banking details).
- Fake Calls: Callers claiming to be
from BankMobile or the college requesting personal or financial
information.
- Urgency Tactics: Scammers may threaten
to delay your refund unless you act immediately.
Tips to Protect Yourself:
Be cautious with unsolicited emails, phone calls or text
messages. If you receive an email, phone calls or text messages asking for
personal information or urgent action, especially from unfamiliar sources,
double-check before responding.
Think before you click. Avoid clicking on links or
downloading attachments from unfamiliar or suspicious emails. When in doubt,
contact the sender through other means to verify the authenticity of the
communication.
Verify the source. Double-check the sender's email
address and domain for any discrepancies. If you receive an email from a known
organization but something seems off, contact them directly to confirm the
message's legitimacy.
Do Not Share Personal Information. San Antonio
College will never ask for sensitive details via text, email, or phone.
