Network Administrative Access

Service Description:

Network administrative access privileges, also referred to as root access privileges, allow unrestricted network access to individuals, granting them the ability to install software, hardware drivers, and make system level changes to specified computers.  San Antonio College automatically grants client users non-administrative privileges by default, aiding in the protection of integrity and security of the college’s computing environment. Network administrative access is granted to certain individuals upon request.

However, it is important to understand the risks associated with granting network administrative access. Risks include the ability to install software that interferes with normal operating system application behavior, intentional or unintentional changes made to a system that cause it to fail or operate in an unexpected manner, and malicious software installations; which take advantage of administrative privileges to infect a system and propagate into a network it is connected to.

To request network administrative access, please submit a Footprints ticket through the online request system at http://footprints.alamo.edu.  Click on this link to access the form: Application For Workstation Administrative Equivalent .
