Planetarium Services

Service Description:

The Scobee Planetarium has been an icon of the San Antonio College campus since 1961 and celebrates its 60th anniversary on October 1, 2021.  The 38' full dome of the planetarium majestically provides the sensation of a dark, clear nighttime San Antonio sky with the use of the Digistar 6 4K projection system. The       traditional "Sky Tonight" live presentation is a favorite presentation lead by the center astronomer. Recorded presentations from the Scobee Planetarium library are provided on   a monthly basis and announced through the center's Facebook page and websites.


Public Planetarium Presentations: Friday evenings center doors open at 6:00pm

6:30pm-Animated family presentation (no age restriction)

7:30pm-"Sky Tonight" Live presentation (children must be 6yrs or older) 9:00pm-Movie selection, often a double feature (children must be 6yrs or older)

If weather and staffing permit, the Scanlan Observatory on the Powell Star Deck is opened for an hour at no additional fees following the close of the 9:00pm presentation typically at 10:00pm.

Eligibility: Student, Staff, Faculty, Community

Availability:
Monday through Thursday, 9:00am-4:00pm excluding holidays. Fridays 6:00pm-10:30pm.

How to access services (Procedures if Any): Monday through Thursday programs are by advanced reservation only through the contact information provided.  Friday public planetarium program tickets go on sale thirty minutes prior to each presentation in the center ticket booth.

Service Cost:
Planetarium public presentations $4/students 6-17hrs, seniors 65+, Teachers w/school ID & active Military w/ID, $5/adults $2/ACCD student or employee with current ID Qualifying not-for-profit group rate of $100/32 students + 3 adults

Additional Information: San Antonio College courses that include Scobee Planetarium programming as a part of their official curriculum may be scheduled for single presentations at no fee as long as the requested times do not require additional staffing or conflict with revenue producing community or school presentations before 2:00pm.
