BioSig- ID FAQs
Do we have to use it?
Yes, all online classes should be using it to meet SACS guidelines.
What is best practice for using BioSig-ID?
Use modules and set prerequisites so student must verify identity before getting to the next item in the module.
Have a “verification assignment” at the beginning of the course. Remind students to write down password for future assignments.
Do we have to use modules?
No, but it’s the most effective way to use the tool. First, set up BioSig-ID under Assignments.
What are the browser requirements?
Mozilla Firefox 112 or above
Google Chrome 112 or above
A browser with HTML5 support
JavaScript enabled in your browser
What if the student forgets their password?
They have a backup that acts like a secret question, for resets. If they forget both, they can request a password reset via email (
http://www.biosig-id.com/videos/ht-reset-password/
).
What if the student creates a password in one class, and then is instructed to do so in another?
BioSig- ID will recognize the user from his/her email address. If he/she has already created a password, he/she will be instructed to just verify identity for that assignment. It may seem confusing if you’re telling them to create a password again, but it doesn’t affect the “grading”.
How do we explain this tool to students?
Sample announcement message to use in your CANVAS course:
This course requires you to participate in a new security system, Biometric Signature ID, as part of our accreditation compliance. This new software system is used to verify a students’ ID using your mouse, touch pad, stylus or touch screen. No special hardware or software downloads are necessary.
